About Me

Kenn Papadopoulo

- Biologist | Naturalist

Born in an inland village near Paris, my love for the sea blossomed during my childhood summers spent exploring the vibrant waters of Normandy. My interest in organismal biology led to a B.Sc. in organism biology and ecology at Paris-Saclay University (2016-2019). Witnessing my first wild shark in Australia during my last year of bachelor’s degree at The University of Sydney (2019-2020) sparked a profound curiosity about the enigmatic ecology and behaviour of these misunderstood animals.

I then continued my academic career with an international Msc. degree in Marine Biology taking place in Ghent University (Belgium), University of Algarve (Portugal). Universidad del País Vasco (Spain) and Galway Mayo Institute of Technology (Ireland). I had the opportunity to realise my Msc. thesis at the Institute of Marine Science (IIM-CSIC) in Vigo Spain were I investigated the drivers of the behaviour and spatial ecology of the small spotted catshark and thornback skate around the Cíes Islands, a small marine protected area in the Northwest of the Iberian Peninsula. Believing movement to be a pivotal feature of animal survival and providing structure to the ecosystem, I took it upon myself to learn as much as possible from the ins and out of acoustic telemetry and animal tracking.

I am now enrolled in a PhD program at campus do Mar, University of Vigo, focused on how elasmobranchs move and interact within their ecosystems and more specifically how they cope with biotic and abiotic changes in their environment.

My interest in marine life and the sea pushed me to be certified as a Professional Scuba diver for scientific and inshore commercial purposed. Recreationally qualified as a Padi Dive Master I dive when and where ever the opportunity comes.

If you receive an out-of-office reply, I am likely on or under the water. I also enjoys sailing, windsurfing and bouldering.
