A new species has entered our tracking work in Galicia. Yesterday, we tagged our first blue shark (Prionace glauca) in the wild.
This marks the eighth species recorded in these Atlantic waters—one more step in building a clearer picture of the predators that move through this coast. Another species still eludes us, but the search continues, season after season, dive after dive.
The tagging effort is part of a broader collaboration with the Institute of Marine Research (CSIC), the Universidade de Vigo, Campus do Mar, and the European Tracking Network. Each tag brings us closer to understanding how these animals use the Galician shelf, and why their presence here matters.
